Swami Vivekananda Quotes

"Each soul is potentially  divine. The goal is to manifest this Divinity within by controlling nature, external and internal. Do this either by work, or worship, or psychic control, or philosophy - by one, or more, or all of these- and be free. This is the whole of religion. Doctrines, or dogmas, or rituals, or books, or temples, or forms, are but secondary details."

9th January- "If this room is full of darkness for thousands of years and you come in and begin to weep and wail, 'Oh the darkness', will the darkness vanish?  Strike a match and light comes in a moment."

10th January- "Simply by the observance of strict Brahmacharya (continence) all learning can be mastered in a very short time - one has an unfailing memory of what one hears or knows but once."

11th January- "If a man thinks good thoughts and does good works, the sum total of these impressions will be good; and they, in a similar manner, will force him to do good even in spite of himself."

12th January- "The first obstruction  (to spiritual practice) is an unhealthy body: if the body is not in a fit state, the practice will be obstructed. Therefore we have to keep the body in good health; we have to take care of what we eat and drink, and what we do."

13th January- "Stand up, be bold, be strong. Take up the whole responsibility on your own shoulders, and know that you are creator of your own destiny. All the strength and succour you want is within yourselves. Therefore, make your own future."

14th January- "Those who are pure always in body, mind, and speech, who have strong devotion, who discriminate between the real and the unreal, who persevere in meditation  and contemplation - upon them alone the grace of the Lord descends."

15th January- "This Batman has first to be heard, then reasoned upon, and then meditated upon. This is the method of Advaita Jnani. The truth has to be heard, then reflected upon and then to be constantly assorted. Think always, 'I am Brahman'."

16th January-  "Religions of the World have become lifeless mockeries. What the world wants is character. The world  is in need of those whose life is one burning love, selfless. That love will make every word tell like thunderbolt."

17th January- "There is a vast difference  between saying 'food, food' and eating it, between saying 'water, water' and drinking it. So by merely repeating the words 'God, God' we can not hope to attain realization. We must strive and practice."

ESSENCE OF THE BHAGWAD GITA

ESSENCE OF THE BHAGWAD GITA           Why are you unnecessarily worrying ? whom do you fear ? Who can kill you ? Soul is not born, nor does it die.         What has happened has happened for the best. What is happening is happening for the best. What will happen will also happen for the best. Do not brood over the past. Do not worry about the future.        The present is on. What have you lost that you are weeping ? what have you brought that you have lost ? what have you made, that has been destroyed ? You have not brought anything. What you have, you got from here. What was given, was given here. What you took, you took from this Universe. What you gave, you gave into this Universe. You have come empty handed and will go empty handed. What is yours today was somebody else’s in the past and will be somebody else’s in the future. You think i...
