PIN Code


    In today’s Internet age, although the widespread use of correspondence has declined, its importance cannot be denied.  Usually when we write a letter, we write the PIN code at the address.  But many people are not fully aware of its meaning and purpose.  So they write the PIN code, whether it is right or wrong.  This PIN code is an English abbreviation.  Its full extension is the Postal Index Number. In short it is called a PIN.  This helps to keep the letters organized and take them to the destination with ease.


       The PIN code of any place in India is always six digits.  Each digit has one meaning, and it fulfills a specific purpose, such as: PIN-756001.  The first digit (7) on the left represents a specific area of ​​the country.  The second and third digits (5, 6) indicates a subspace and indicate the route by which the letter will reach the destination.  The first three digits (7, 5, 6), mean a district.  The last three digits to the right of the PIN code indicate a specific distribution post office within the district.  The six digits together represent a specific post office in the country.

            The Indian Postal Service has divided the entire country into eight zones.  For example:

 Zone No. 1 (Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir)

 Zone No. 2 (Uttar Pradesh)

 Zone No. 3 (Rajasthan, Gujarat, Daman and Diu, Dadra and Nagarhabeli)

 Zone No. 4 (Maharashtra, Goa and Madhya Pradesh)

 Zone No. 5 (Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka)

 Zone No. 4 (Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Lakshadweep)

 Zone 4 (West Bengal, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Odisha, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland and Tripura)

 Zone 4 (Bihar)

          The post office suggests everyone to write the PIN code at the address.  For example, there are six small rooms at the end of the address to write the PIN code on postcards, Inland letters, money order forms, registry envelopes, and so on.  The inbox is specifically instructed to ‘write the PIN code at the address’.

      Despite this, many people do not write the PIN code at the address or understand the importance of it.  As a result, the letter delays reaching the destination or sometimes reaches at the wrong destination.  For example, suppose a man writes a letter to Jaypur (Rajasthan).  But due to negligence or some other reason, he could not mention the name of the state as Rajasthan.  So, who will say that this letter will not go to Jaypur, Koraput district in Odisha)?  But if the sender writes the PIN code of the address (Rajasthan), the problem will not be anything.  This is because it will be clear from the first 3 digits of the PIN code of the letter to Rajasthan.  If you go to Jaypur district in Odisha, it will be from the first number 7.  Employees who do letter-sortting are so accustomed to this that they can even identify the destination by the name of the place.  Of course, this applies only to familiar and famous places.  Everyone should keep in mind that the clearer and more accurate the address, the more likely it is that it will arrive on time.  Unless anyone is volunteering to come up with a pretty template? Go to any post office or search the internet to find out the correct postal code.  In large post offices, the PIN code chart is displayed in a public place.
